I’m 2 weeks and 3 days postpartum and my baby is finally asleep. My husband is at the gym and I have a Disney movie on in the background that I’ve never watched before that’s more than halfway over and I don’t count this as watching it because I wasn’t actually paying attention. Pause, he’s up. And we are back, he’s attached to my left boob and already sharted himself :) and it’s been an hour since I first started this. Update, it’s been days since I started this and my child is on one boob and the haaka milk collector on my other, catching let down milk and baby Einstein is playing in the back. I’m actually 3 weeks post partum now.
There are so many things I have thought to blog since delivering. There’s the birth story… LOL. The nurse curse is real. Talk about traimaticccccccc. But that’s for another time. When I talk to all my friends with kids, we all have a cohesively strong thought. That there’s so much that isn’t talked about. There’s not enough education or conversation around so many aspects of postpartum. We worry and worry about the delivery itself so we don’t give the fourth trimester another thought. There are so many things to discover in this newborn period. Here’s a vague, vague, vague list that will be needing additions.
NO ONE TELLS YOU:
about the euphoria you feel when delivering your baby and seeing him for the very first time.
about how overprotective you feel about anyone and anything coming in contact with your child.
that postpartum hormone shift means absolutely bawling at every inconvenience, and I mean EVERY inconvenience and emotions are now felt to the thousandth power, no under exaggeration.
the second night syndrome is real, your baby WILL keep you up all night on night 2.
that although “bReAsT iS bEsT”, your child needs to eat to survive.
that feeding your child from your breast likely will be less than what you are able to feed him through bottle, regardless if it’s formula or pumped milk!
you will cry while feeding your child. Not sure why, but you will. Multiple times.
nursing bras are not optional, they are MANDATORY. Buy 7 while you’re pregnant, thank me later.
size your flanges for your pump! It’s a game changer, most nipples size smaller than the 24 or 28 mm that’s given.
your kid will make noises in the middle of sleeping, grunting, screaming, flailing his arms, wait a minute before you pick him up cuz he’s in active sleep.
buy a huge ass water bottle that has a spout so you can drink easily while you’re feeding/pumping and only need one hand for.
the haakaa milk collector is not overrated! Get it so you can catch let down milk from the boob you aren’t feeding on, there’s more there than you think.
not everything is in your control, there’s a lot that just happens and you can’t help it.
watching your husband become a father will make you fall even deeper in love with him. He’ll definitely surprise you.
the newborn trenches are not a joke, lean on your people and other moms.
you’re not alone, ever! You can do this! It’s all temporary.
Thanks for listening to me rant, more motherhood stories to come, I’m sure. Sistah ceej loves you! CHEEEEEHOOOOOOOO braddahboo \m/
